2016 New Years Ideas – Fiesta Style

Flautas, Rumchata, and Tres Leches Cake will make your New Years Party Delicioso!

Did your family get to celebrate with some Christmas enchiladas? We hope so! With the big St. Nick day just passing it is time to get ready for a fun new year celebration. Have you you ever tried Rosca de Reyes? it is a sweet bread with all the trimmings right inside – mango, cherries, lemon, and figs. Perfect starter for your Mexican holiday party.

You should always be able to find some holiday tamales down at your local grocer that are easy to heat up and serve with sour cream, guacamole, queso fresco, and some fresh pico de gallo! Easy to eat non-messy fiesta food is our suggestion for the main course. Really anything you can eat with your fingers or just a fork from a small plate.

For instance, our famous holiday Crab Flautas are a huge hit around this time of year. If you don’t feel like cooking, just do an easy to-go order. They are super soft flour tortillas stuffed with fresh crab meat, chiles, and green onions (very colorful). We add sour cream and guacamole for a little dipping fun.

But what to drink? there are so many great holiday Mexican drinks to pick from. Two of the more popular libations are the Rumchata and the Mexico City Mule.

Rumchata

  • Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
  • Homemade horchata (or store bought)
  • Float of Meyer’s Dark Rum
  • Cinnamon stick

Mexico City Mule

  • 1800 Silver Tequila
  • Giner beer
  • Lime juice

Last but not least is dessert. Tres Leches Cake is full of color and gives you that wonderful holiday comfort food feel. Ours is make with white sponge cake soaked in three types of cream. We top it with caramel, chocolate and whipped cream. Try serving this with a nice Mexican expresso to cap the evening off and ring in the new year!
